A destination not to be missed
White houses and rocks on a cliff top above the sea
If you love the sea, you will also love Polignano “Pearl of the Adriatic”, tourist and seaside town characterized by crystal clear sea and rocks that the force of the tide has hollowed out to create really beautiful caves and inlets.
The historical centre of Polignano is also fascinating, with traces left by Arab, Byzantine, Spanish and Norman cultures, like the remains of the four defensive towers that surrounded the old part of the settlement.
Once you have entered the old town, which is perfect for a romantic stroll, you can admire cliffs that look out over the sea, and little alleyways, and enjoy the famous “logge”, with wonderful views over the sea.
nel blu dipinto di blu
The town of Domenico Modugno
Polignano a Mare is also the birth place of the singer Domenico Modugno, who became famous for his song “Nel blu dipinto di blu”, which is better known as “Volare”.
In 2008 Polignano a Mare erected a statue in his honour, on the Seafront named after him..
